According to Honda spokesman Marcos Frommer, "Honda is focused on reducing the environmental impact of all its operations, not just its products." ¹ Their work to lessen the environmental impact of Honda operations was recently recognized by the US Green Building Council. The nonprofit organization certified the Honda HQ in Torrance, CA as well as the Honda powertrain facility in Anna, OH as "green buildings."

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification is given to buildings designed to minimize energy consumption and the carbon footprint. There are incentives for companies with facilities that are LEED certified, and more automotive companies have been certified in recent years, coinciding with the general trend to produce more hybrid or electric vehicles.

In a recent statement, Frommer remarked that Honda's green efforts can be found in every step of Honda production. He went on to say that, "not only is this type of activity the right thing to do, but we also believe consumers are looking for companies that are taking a holistic approach to reducing their environmental impact."¹
